Wednesday: Around the Hill

A hankering for the ocean grabbed hold of me this morning...
...and for a strawberry shake in the restaurant at the end of the pier...

...but I never got any closer than this...Signal Hill.
There are the peaks of Catalina Island, 26 miles across the sea, rising above the smog.

 Overlooking the airport...
...not much snow this year in the San Bernardino Moutains.

The view down the coastline toward Seal Beach,
where the pier and the strawberry shake can be found.
Perhaps I will go there tomorrow.

Circling around and heading uphill; this is the huff and puff segment of the walk.

There are other streets around the summit of the hill I've never been on...
...such as this one.  How would you like to live next to an oil well?
I could hear the machines creaking and squeaking as they pump the oil out of the ground.
It must be more aggravating than crickets when trying to sleep at night.

Full circle...up there under the palm trees is where I started.
With this amazing weather we are having there were lots of people
walking or running or just enjoying the views.

How nice to live in such a pretty place. Nothing much scenic here...at least not close to our house.I'm a little jealous! :-)

This post has given me an extreme longing for my birth place. I was born in Long Beach and I just applied for grad school at CSULB. Thanks for all the beautiful pictures.

OMG Sara - I see the Zeppelin at the airfield!! Remember my flight was canceled last year due to a mechanical problem at the last moment - well we are booked to go on Feb. 16 - flight over SF - prior to heading to Hawaii. My fingers are crossed in hopes I do it this time - and Bob will be with me.

Lovely views - agree the oil well does not make an attractive garden ornament!!

Hugs - Mary

P.S. That sounded silly - we are NOT flying to Hawaii on the airship - just a regular plane the following day!!!!!!

My goodness, living so close to an oil well. Did not know oil was pumped in your area.
