Donning sun hat and sun gloves
and striding east along the street,
the first beauty I encounter
is this dewey white rose.
There seems to be a lot of white around...
...even the sky is white...
...white blossoms and white lawn chairs...
...white house on the corner...
...white planes in the blue sky...
...funny how the sky changes color
depending on which direction one is looking...
depending on which direction one is looking...
A white porthole window...
...look how weather beaten the paint is...
I like the texture it creates.
But there is still plenty of color around too...
...green shutters...
...orange pumpkins...
Have those pumpkins been there since Halloween?
Probably.
Just look at this glorious tangle
of green, orange and russet
star-shaped succulents.
Faded pink cinder blocks, yellow flowers...
...and what is that I spy?
A half-drunk bottle of amber brandy...
...someone evidently had a bit too much to drink last night
and forgot to take his bottle home with him...
Colorful birds of paradise...
...I must admit, I do not care for these flowers
but I do love those broad green leaves glowing so brilliantly...
Now, isn't this the cutest little trailer you ever saw?
It reminds me of an Easter egg.
I'd love to look inside!
My chosen walking location is directly under the flight path
of the Long Beach airport. Look at this old 1950's (?) era
propeller plane. They have their own distinctive drone...
I can remember first noticing that sound when I was six or seven.
I was at my grandparents' home lying on the grass in the hot sun
with my eyes closed and listening to a plane flying overhead...
...its deep rumbling droning sound seemed so lazy and soothing to me...
I'll never forget it.
I see there is a commercial jetliner in this photo also
visible only by its shining trail, straight as an arrow...
...and the tip of that palm tree seems to be waving hello to us...
it makes me smile.
I like how this front yard has been arranged...
a sloping lawn in front,
and a wrought iron fence closer to the house
with a porch/patio area behind it.
Not only is it attractive, but it also keeps the
door-to-door salespeople away!
This is the prettiest section along the many blocks I trod during my 80-minute walk.
The hubcap resting against the base of the stop sign
is what caught my attention.
Somewhere out there is a car with a naked wheel.
I loved sharing your walk today! Mine will be taken after dark when The Professor and I stroll in our neighborhood. No photos then...
ReplyDeleteHa! Love that little trailer! I'm looking forward to walking in some sunshine!
ReplyDeleteWith your weather in California, I can well understand why folks move there. Here in the South, we're all looking at lots of gray...the trees, the sky. All gray. Well the blue sky does peek through at times, but grey is so common now.
ReplyDeleteYours looks wonderful. :)
Thank you for the walk unfortunately It doesn't do me any good physically. I'm having withdrawal symptoms as it has been raining here for 5 days.
ReplyDeleteI love these walks! It's almost like being along with you. And the best--the little trailer. How adorable! What a bright spot even among such beauty!
ReplyDeletePray tell about 'sun gloves' please! Your must have beautiful blemish-free hands Sara.
ReplyDeleteLovely observations from your most interesting walk - and after a visit to whatever-mart one needs something beautiful to rest ones eyes upon!!!!!!! The porthole window does it for me.
Hugs - Mary
Sara, I just love the little trailer. It looks like a bright-eyed bluebird to me. (And your white rose photo is simply lovely.)
ReplyDeleteAll kinds of visual treats on that walk.
ReplyDeleteI used to be meh on bird of paradise, but eventually loved them for back lit photography.
What a nice post. I like the white photos specially but I fell in love with the little trailer - I wonder if it is more a decorative item than a serious trailer for going away in? If it was mine I'd have it as a guest bedroom! wouldn't that be cute!?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos all - I especially love that blossoming tree! Wow, I think I can smell it from here :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, this would be perfect for Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors - please feel free to come by and join!
It's here: http://iwishiwereaphotographer.blogspot.com/2012/01/whimsical-windows-delirious-doors-8.html
Have a great day!
That little trailer is the cutest thing....when Country Living magazine has their Fair here in Atlanta the group
ReplyDelete"Sisters on the Fly".....the fly fishers come in their little trailers...they are adorable inside....I wish I had a nice place to walk everyday...I had high hopes when we moved to the new neighborhood....nice flat roads....pretty things to look at and then the Georgia DOT and some ass of a neighbor decided to put in 9 speed bumps leading into our sub-division....and it's a dead end street with only a horse farm and a Villa on the road....dumbest thing I have ever scene....I was hoping to get a nice bike but that put the Kibosh
on that......
Ah, what a caravan!! So cute!
ReplyDeleteIts so suprising how clean and neat the homes are which you photograph on all of your walks, here there is just nothing like it, i think we are not particularly house proud here in Leicester. Even the posher areas dont seem as neat! Such a shame,
ReplyDeleteAqeela xx
What a mixture of interesting images you have collected here Sara. 80 mins.? Was that half taken up with searching out images and shooting!
