add up to many miles walked, if that is your goal.

Thursday was sunny with high clouds, and warmish, in the 70's. As I was meeting friends for lunch down on Second Street in Belmont Shore, I took advantage of the location and arrived 90 minutes early so I could spend time walking around the neighborhood and the adjacent beach before lunch. This is a great place to walk if you like to look at little gardens and interesting cottages of every conceivable style crowded together shoulder to shoulder all within one, two and three blocks of the beach.

Looking down while crossing an alleyway, I see a little love note heart just for me, tucked into a crack in the sidewalk!

Thursday was a 10,000-step day - yippee! And, as you can see here, a lot of other people were enjoying the day and walking on the beach too.

On Friday I headed out early for Signal Hill for about 90 minutes, then decided I would go over to the canal area called Naples to finish off with some easier stepping. Friday was completely sunny and hotter than Thursday. The circular walk around the canal was quiet and peaceful. Bees were buzzing in the gardens, now and then I'd see a gardener working or someone walking the dog.

These homes along the canal all seem to have gorgeous gardens. It is amazing what can be done with tiny plots of land. There were oodles of roses and of course I stopped to smell them now and then. Simply delicious!

This alligator (crocodile?) is a new addition since I was last here several months ago.

This happily splashing fountain graces a tiny circular park inside a quiet traffic circle on Ravenna Street. A mallard duck was enjoying the water and providing entertainment for a small child.

Speaking of circles, I noticed this mirror mounted high on a telephone pole, providing views to drivers around a curvy and blind corner. It seemed like a good opportunity for a self portrait...just look for the white walking shoes! They got lots of exercise this day....Friday was a 12,000-step day!

And today....today I'm taking a break. We walked around the grocery store this morning, and I walked around the garden planting a very small plumeria tree and watering the 27 red geraniums that I recently put in the planter under the living room window. But now...now I'm going to sit back and read
A Walk with Jane Austen. I'll let you know how it goes.
Oh, and later today I plan to watch "Big Night" all about food, food, luxurious food. Thank you,
Lala at My Castle in Spain, for the recommendation!
I hope, wherever you are, that you are enjoying a relaxing weekend.

Yay for you! 12000 steps is quite an achievement!
That alligator looks pretty realistic to me!
Our relaxing weekend involves a walk along Long Beach marina, Ugandan Lambs benefit concert and maybe seeing you at GBCLB in the morning!
I thoroughly enjoy your long walks, each of them like a little vacation (today especially, after I walked in the rain)!
I am looking forward to hear more about your "Walk with Jane Austen".
I had to smile when I read that you are going to watch "Big Night" tonight: it is one of my favorite movies. I referred to it only a few days ago, in a post from Rome. Now I have to go see what "Castle in Spain" has to say about it!
Cheers! :-)
Well done walking...
I was just checking out the Pemberley Chronicles by Rebecca Collins. Katie just finished reading the Darcy Fitzwilliam series. Now here's another one for me to check into :0)
That heart leaf? WOW!
Sara, loved the photos. Really a relaxing tour. Glad to see you are well. The long walks sound so refreshing. Yes, the scent of roses is quite properly described as delicious! At present our garden is a veritable carafe of delight.
Good on you for getting out there and actively taking care of your health, and what a beautiful place to do it in too! Wishing you a wonderful day!

I love walking too, your walks bring me to faraway places I will never go, It is so interesting to follow in your steps, you reallly live in a fabulous place, i would like very much to be there with you, eagerly looking around.
My book club did that book by Lori
Smith and we called her to ask her questions. It has a personal testimony within the story. You will enjoy it!
Bonnie
Love the heart shaped leaf. How nice of mother nature to leave it for you.
Hope you enjoy the movie Sarah!
As ever your long walks are very enjoyable and you seem to have a very nice weather in your lovely part of the world...
i'm quite curious about this book. Sounds interesting.
Hope you had a great week end and wish you a very good week!
Oh I do want to hear how you liked the Austin book? I am so sad I finished a E.G. book recently, The Child from the Sea. I read it very slowly. I get so wrapped up in her story lines sometimes I like to linger in them. I feel the same way about an Austin novel:)
I am way behind on all your walking here...
Congrats.on all those steps. Great picture of the reflection in the mirror.
'Big Night' I have not heard of.
Okay I'm like totally jealous...I'm spending my weekend at a crappy outlet mall in the middle of nowhere....your at the beach!! Plus we moved to the South for warm weather and it's suppose to snow on Tuesday......and as for visiting Monet's house...You may a much better choice in Mont St. Michel....we went there also and it is amazing...a little smelly but amazing none the less...We would like to go back someday and stay at the hotel right on the island...or whatever you would call it....Giverney was lovely but you certainly picked a wonderful site to see....Sue.
