Poinsettias and....have I mentioned snow?

Oh dear, I seem to have led some of you astray with my vague remarks about family....judging by your comments to my last post.

This is my grandmother...and if she were still alive she'd be about 110! And that's her rascally little brother we grandkids all knew as Uncle Tommy. My grandmother's rocking chair that I remember from my childhood now resides at my aunt's home. That's were we were staying for a couple of nights, my sister and I.

Now that we got that straightened out....on to the next destination!

Departing The Country Village, the weather still behaving nicely, though dark and threatening, not to mention COLD!!!, we navigated our way to Woodinville to visit Molbak's Nursery. It's always great fun when you have locals for relatives, who can show you the best and most interesting places when you visit!

What a glorious place! So many kinds of poinsettias....and every one was perfect...

Hmmmm...I see I gravitated to all the pink ones. There were lots of red poinsettias too, though I did not photograph any, except for the poinsettia tree a few photos above...

Also, similar to Rogers Gardens here in Southern California, they had a large area devoted to Christmas decor and ornaments, with decorated trees; also home decor, dishes, mirrors....it was a veritable wonderland of things to look at. There was also a very good high school choir strolling about the store performing Christmas carols.

After enjoying all that Molbak's had to offer, the four of us sat for a while at their little cafe enjoying cups of tea or coffee. From where we were sitting I could see outside and noticed that it was starting to snow! Dashing out, I took this photo which hopefully shows a few flakes coming down. I stood there for a few seconds, my face held up to the sky to let the flakes fall on it. Bliss!

Now, this looks more like something from the Getty Villa, but it was the table top at which we were sitting and enjoying our teas and coffees. Warmed and slaked, with darkness falling and it was time to go back to my aunt's cozy home and dinner.

The next morning there was more snow! It was Sunday. The day of my evening flight back to Long Beach....also the day my sister and I planned to visit Snohomish, a quaint town full of Victorian homes, where a Christmas Parlor Tour was being offered.

First, however, we had another lazy, long morning in our pj's and robes, reading the paper, enjoying my aunt's famous pancakes (made from my great grandmother's recipe)....and watching the dire weather reports and road conditions, wondering if we should stay over another day or two. Finally, my sister and I decided to brave it and head for points south....

First, however, snow had to be scraped off the car.

Come back tomorrow for more.....

Wonderful visit! All those pink poinsettias!

The snow is still there! Even more of it than last week!

Those pink poinsettias are soooo pretty! I like decorating with the traditional red ones, but I do find the pink ones (especially the variegated ones) more appealing.

Ahh...snow! I do enjoy looking at it and playing in it, but driving in it and shoveling it make me happy to be in Florida these days.

Pink Poinsettias are my favorite kind! I'm glad to read I am not the only SoCal kook girl who stands around trying to catch snowflakes on her tongue. You are having such a great winter holiday adventure, I am enjoying every bit that you share.

Joyeous Christmas Sara!

Sara. . .it is so funny .. you head north and ellen heads south. . nearly ran into each other I'm sure.
I loved seeing all your photos of the ferry and the sights here and there. What a wonderful place to explore. .
I still look up to the snow and allow the flakes to find my face. . .and I smile and I don't care what they think of me. . .
That is what keeps us young .. er.

Merry Christmas to you and to yours. .
